A 34-year-old woman was shot dead Thursday afternoon at her home in Chesterfield, according to police.

Rachel Warren was found dead at about 2:30 p.m. in the 400 block of North Main Street, a news release from the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office said, and officers said a homicide suspect was in custody.

A 911 caller described the suspect’s car to dispatchers and the chief deputy of the sheriff’s department spotted the car and began a pursuit, which eventually went into Jersey County, the release stated.

There, Jersey County deputies assisted in the chase, and the man was arrested without further incident.

In a later release on Friday morning, police said 34-year-old David Buck, of Medora, is considered a homicide suspect and is being held at the county jail on an unrelated no-bond warrant out of Texas. He was not facing any charges in Macoupin County as of Friday afternoon.

No one other than Warren was injured during the shooting and police chase.

Illinois State Police is assisting deputies from both counties with the investigation.
