Four vacant homes and a school bus went up in flames Saturday in Washington Park, adding to what the fire department’s chief called “a lot of suspicious fires” in the city.
The Washington Park Fire Department was called to a home in the 5700 block of Hill Avenue at about 11 a.m. Saturday.
“A house, the outer garage and a bus were burning,” when firefighters arrived, said fire Chief Sharon Davis. “While we were there, two more lit off.”
A fourth home caught fire because of flames from another home and outbuildings were also destroyed in fires, Davis said.

The state fire marshal was called in to investigate the fires, Davis said.
“We do have a lot of suspicious fires,” she said. Davis was not aware of any recent arrests regarding fires.
Davis said the school bus had been used for storage and was parked near a home.
There were no injuries.
