Police arrest, charge man in Southern Illinois shooting

A Harrisburg man was arrested and charged in a shooting over the weekend in Saline County.

Gerald Williams is accused of shooting at a vehicle and a house Saturday in the 1300 block of Holland Street in Harrisburg, police told WSIL-TV. Police say they found the man with a stolen handgun.

No one was hurt during the shooting.

Williams was arrested and charged on two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm, WSIL reported.

“The citizens that live in that part of the town are getting fed up, they’re scared, and they don’t know what to expect every night and it’s getting out of hand,” said Harrisburg Mayor John McPeek told WSIL.

Harrisburg is north of the Shawnee National Forest, east of Marion.
