Police were searching for a person who stole a car in St. Louis and crashed into power lines in East St. Louis early Wednesday morning.

Police responded to the accident around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to Fox 2 News.

The driver hit a light pole at Bond Avenue and South 12 Street, knocking the pole over and causing apartments nearby to lose power, Fox 2 News reported.

As of 9 a.m. Wednesday, several poles were down at the intersection. Traffic was blocked on 12th Street, but still flowing on Bond Avenue. At least half a dozen Ameren trucks were on the scene, putting up new power poles and power lines. It was not immediately known how many customers were out of power.

The person fled the scene. The car was taken from somewhere in St. Louis.
