Wrong-way crash on Interstate 70 kills one, injures 6

One person was killed in a head-on crash early Friday morning that injured six other people, according to Illinois State Police.

ISP spokesman Calvin Dye Jr. said a passenger vehicle was eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near Troy when it crashed into a westbound Ford. They had first heard of the wrong-way driver on Interstate 270 near Illinois 159, and it apparently continued onto Interstate 70 before it struck the Ford.

The driver, a 25-year-old man from Festus, Missouri, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. His passenger, a 37-year-old from Bowling Green, Missouri, was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

The Ford driver was a 22-year-old woman from Wooster, Ohio traveling with her family. She was in critical condition and taken to an area hospital; three of her passengers remained hospitalized in serious condition and a fourth passenger was treated and released.
