A student at Vandalia High School was arrested after threatening to carry out a shooting at the school, according to police.
Police Chief Jeff Ray said police were notified of a possible threat on Wednesday morning — the same day that 17 students were killed at a school in Florida.
Ray said officers interviewed multiple witnesses and spoke to the juvenile who allegedly made the statement. The juvenile told police he was joking around when he made the statement, according to Ray.
Ray said the student was taken into custody, and an investigation was ongoing. He said his department takes such matters "very seriously."
