Authorities say a gunman is at large after shooting two people early Monday morning inside an East St. Louis apartment in the 400 block of Wimmer Place.

Several people, including a small child, were inside the apartment when the shooting occurred, according to East St. Louis police Chief Jerry Simon.

Keirson D. Coleman, a 20-year-old from Texas, was shot once in the chest and pronounced dead by the St. Clair County Coroner at 2:57 a.m.

His aunt, Ruby Blair, said the apartment was her daughter's. She said both men who were shot had answered the door before the shots were fired.

"I want justice for my nephew," Blair said. "This killing has to stop, not just for my family but all over — in East St. Louis, Washington Park and everywhere."

The second man injured in the shooting was taken to a hospital, Simon said. His condition was unavailable at about 8 a.m. Monday. Blair said the second man is from Arkansas and is related to both her and Coleman.

The two men have been visiting family in East St. Louis for some time.

Simon said no one else was injured during the shooting.

Illinois State Police are investigating alongside East St. Louis police.
