A head-on crash killed one person Tuesday afternoon near Nashville.
The driver of a 2014 Chevrolet Impala, 58-year-old John W. Frye, of Freeburg, was fatally injured when the vehicle crossed the center line of Illinois 15 near Raven Road in Washington County, according to Illinois State Police. The Impala hit a 2017 Ford pickup head-on.
The pickup driver tried to swerve into the grass, but the embankment was too steep and he was unable to avoid the crash, according to the Washington County Coroner's Office.
The pickup's driver, 36-year-old Micah Rincker, of Ashley, was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Frye was pronounced dead at 1:13 p.m. and had to be extricated from his car, according to the coroner's office.
Coroner Mark Styninger took toxicology samples from Frye for routine testing, and Frye's preliminary cause of death was ruled as accidental massive blunt force trauma, the coroner's office said.
Illinois 15 was closed for about three hours to allow ISP to investigate and clear the highway of debris. The crash was still under investigation Tuesday night.
