Franklin County man shot and stabbed mother, police say

A 32-year-old Franklin County man has been accused of shooting and stabbing his mother Thursday afternoon.

Police arrested Jeffrey R. Herrell after they say he shot and stabbed his 52-year-old mother about 4:38 p.m. in rural Thompsonvile, according to a press release from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

Herrell was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery with a firearm and attempted first-degree murder, the release stated. The Franklin County State's Attorney will review those charges before they are filed.

His mother suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to an out-of-state hospital, the release stated. Her condition was not released Friday.

No additional information was available Friday morning.

Police are still investigating the incident but do no believe there are additional suspects, officials stated in the release.
