A Belleville shop reopens in new spot following sudden closure. Here’s where they are now
I am one of those delightfully fun people who shouldn’t be allowed into certain types of stores with a wallet and without adult supervision.
Like book stores, office supply stores, hardware stores, Target … you know, the fun places.
I Had That/Collector’s Corner is one of these stores.
And the shop is clearly called “I Had That” for a reason because I – like many others, I’m sure – kept thinking, “I had that!” and “I still have that!” as I perused the photos on their social media.
Anyway, earlier this month, this totally awesome store in downtown Belleville suddenly closed its doors at 116 E. Main St. in Belleville.
But the good news is that I Had That/Collector’s Corner is open again!
The store is (for now) operating at 120 E. Main St., right next door.
Why did this store suddenly close?
Here’s what I learned: The space at 116 E. Main St. is being remodeled.
An Aug. 13 post on the I Had That Facebook page stated that “due to a situation at the store,” they would be “closed until further notice.” This post also clarified that “nobody is hurt and we are not closing.”
The I Had That Facebook page later shared that they would set up an interim shop in their former location next door at 120 E. Main St. (They were located here until spring 2021, when they moved to 116 E. Main St.)
As of Monday, Aug. 22, the Facebook page stated that the shop at 116 E. Main St. was closed for renovations. By that time the store was moving to 120 E. Main St.
Beth Wamble, manager at Ben’s Crafts, confirmed that the site is being remodeled and that it may take a couple of months to complete.
I Had That’s Aug. 22 post continued, “We will be operating at about 20% capacity. … please, come see us. … We need some sales to start recovering asap so any help is appreciated.”
I Had That/Collector’s Corner reopened at 120 E. Main St. on Friday.
Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. They are closed Sunday-Monday.
