Belleville lawyer C.J. Baricevic to formally announce run for Congress Monday in Caseyville

On Monday, Belleville lawyer Charles “C.J.” Baricevic, 29, will formally announce his candidacy for the Illinois 12th District Congressional seat held by U.S. Rep. Mike Bost, R-Murphysboro.

Baricevic will be in Caseyville at 2 p.m., visiting the Steamfitters Hall Local 439 at 1220 Donald Bailey Drive. At 10 a.m., Baricevic will visit International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Hall Local 702 at 106 N. Monroe St. in West Frankfort.

Baricevic, an attorney who specializes in labor law, is the son of John Baricevic, the St. Clair County chief judge, former St. Clair County Board chairman and key player in metro-east Democratic politics.

In April, Baricevic announced that he had set up an exploratory committee to help him decide whether to run against Bost, 54, in 2016 as a Democrat. Baricevic confirmed that he would run for Congress on June 1.

International aid worker Edward Vowell, of Belleville, also is considering a run in the Democratic primary, which is set for March 15.
