A three car collision on St. Clair Avenue at Illinois 157 in Fairview Heights caused traffic delays Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Eastbound traffic along St. Clair Avenue at the Illinois 157 interchange in Fairview Heights was delayed Wednesday afternoon following a three vehicle crash.

French Village firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the scene at 4:50 p.m. to find a red Ford pickup facing east in the eastbound curb lane and a silver Pontiac hatchback with damage to its front and driver side facing west in the eastbound lane against the front of the Ford. About 100 feet east of where the truck and hatchback came to rest, a silver Cadillac sedan with heavy front end damage appeared to have run off the eastbound lane of St. Clair Avenue to the right and struck a light pole.

Police and fire officials at the scene were not immediately able to comment on what caused the crash, but it appeared the driver door of the Pontiac was removed by firefighters to access the occupant inside. At least two ambulances responded to the scene but it’s not clear how many people were hurt in the crash.
