A fire ripped through the back of a vehicle on the 800 block of Forest Avenue early Sunday morning, leaving behind a truck partially destroyed and a confused owner.
Stations One and Four of the Belleville Fire Department responded to the fire around 8:55 a.m.; the fire was out by 9:05 a.m. There were no injuries.
Car owner Larry Evans, 62, said he was sleeping when he heard banging at the front door.
“My son was ironing his clothes for church,” Evans said. “He ran upstairs and said the car was on fire. I looked out the window and there it is, my car ablaze.”

Evans said he didn’t know who it was who knocked on his door; there was no one at the front door by the time he got outside.
After the fire was settled, Evans was left wondering how only the back could catch on fire.
“I saw the back end on fire and I wondered to myself ‘how can the back of the car be on fire?’” Evans said. “I really want to see what the fire department’s inspectors come up with. I can’t come up with anything.”
There was no official word on what caused the fire.
