The St. Clair County Coroner’s office on Tuesday identified the two men killed in a two-vehicle crash early Sunday on I-64 at Green Mount Road in O’Fallon.

Killed in the crash were Harold Miller, 81, of Swansea and Shawn Heilman, 40, of Troy.

The coroner’s office said both men died of blunt force trauma as a result of the crash.

According to preliminary Illinois State Police reports, an eastbound 2007 Chrysler 300 that was driven by Miller was either stopped in the far right eastbound lane of I-64 or attempting to move from that lane onto the right shoulder at 4:14 a.m. Sunday.

He was struck from behind by a 2000 Honda Civic that was driven by Heilman.

The collision sent Miller’s vehicle across all eastbound lanes of traffic and into the median guard wires. Heilman’s car spun 180 degrees and came to rest facing west in the eastbound right side shoulder.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner.

No one else was in either vehicle and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

State troopers continue to investigate details about the crash.
