Police say one suspect was apprehended and another was still at large Tuesday following an armed robbery at the O’Fallon Dollars 4 Gold store.
O’Fallon Police Department Capt. James Cavins said police received a 911 call of an armed robbery at the Dollars 4 Gold store, located at 1935 W. U.S. 50., at about 1:25 p.m.
Police said three victims stated that when the two suspects entered the store, they “immediately jumped the counter, pointed guns at them and demanded cash and valuables.” A witness in the parking lot called 911 and followed the suspects on foot, heading north across U.S. 50.
An O’Fallon police officer was in the area and started a foot pursuit into the Homestead and Brookside neighborhood. One suspect was captured and taken into custody after attempting to get into a dark Pontiac Grand Am.
The other suspect continued to flee north. Police said their search for him was unsuccessful.
The suspect still at large Tuesday was described as a black male, 5-foot-6, wearing a red T-shirt with blue jeans, a grey hoodie and a “greyish black mask” covering the bottom half of his face. Police said he was also wearing a dark-colored nylon head rag and armed with a dark-colored semiautomatic handgun.
Police did not immediately release the identity of the suspect who was captured.
No one was injured during the robbery or pursuit.
