A man was found guilty by a jury on Wednesday in connection to a 2014 shooting that happened near Lovejoy Elementary School in Alton.
Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons said 27-year-old Charles D. Thomas was found guilty on one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school, a Class X felony.
Alton Police Department investigated the shooting in February 2014 at the 1000 block of Tremont St.
Sentencing is set to take place following a pre-sentencing investigation, Gibbons said. The maximum penalty for a Class X felony is six to 30 years in prison with a requirement to serve 85 percent of the sentence.
