Cooler temperatures Friday, through the weekend

Metro-east residents will finally get a break Friday and through the weekend from extreme heat that hung around the area all week.

The high temperature will top out 88 Friday after reaching 97 with a heat index of 105 on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

The average high for the middle of June in the St. Louis metropolitan area is 86.

Skies will be sunny with a breeze of 6-10 mph from the northeast.

It will be clear with a low of 65 Friday night.

Saturday will be nearly identical to the day before: Sunny with a high of 88 degrees.

It will be clear Saturday night with a low of 65.

The high will be 91 with sunny skies on Sunday.

Mostly clear skies and a low of 70 are coming Sunday night, with a chance of rain entering the forecast for the start of the workweek.

High temperatures will return to the 90s Monday, the extended forecast indicates.
