Slightly cooler temperatures, scattered storms Tuesday

The metro-east will get a little break from the heat Tuesday.

But the cooler weather is likely to be accompanied by thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

The high will be 89, down from a peak temperature of 94 the day before. Meanwhile, there is a 50 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms.

There is a chance that storms could become severe with hail and damaging winds possible.

The chance of storms will decrease to 40 percent Tuesday night when the low will drop to 72.

Scorching temperatures will return Wednesday when the high will reach 96 and the heat index will push beyond 100. There is a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms.

It will be partly cloudy Wednesday night when the low will be 76.

There is a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms Thursday when the high will be 94.

It will be partly cloudy with a low of 69 Thursday night.
