7 townships now in Public Pay Database

Salary information for seven townships in the metro-east are now on the BND’s Public Pay Database.

They are: Belleville, Caseyville, Collinsville, Engelmann, Mascoutah, O’Fallon and Shiloh. The information can be found at bnd.com/publicpay.

According to a contact list on the website of Illinois Comptroller Leslie Munger, there are about 8,500 units of government that have the ability to levy taxes. However, townships employ far fewer workers, on average, than cities and school districts.

Collinsville Township had the most employees with 30. In all, the seven townships added a total of 117 workers to the database.

Mascoutah Township trustees made the highest salary, at $2,648. All told, the seven townships paid just over $3 million to employees last year.

Outgoing Caseyville Township sewer plant manager Joe Hogg took home the most pay last year with nearly $83,000, including $35,000 in regular pay, $11,500 in back pay and $36,500 in awarded vacation pay.

Mascoutah Township trustees made the highest salary, at $2,648. All told, the seven townships paid just over $3 million to employees last year.

In addition to the townships, there is information available for a dozen schools, 14 cities, six counties, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and Southwestern Illinois College. Information also is available for previous years back to 2011.

Despite the number of records, however, the information is rudimentary and does not include retirement or insurance benefits — two big components of worker compensation.
