A serious accident on Interstate 70 just east of the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge left one driver injured Tuesday morning.

According to Illinois State Police reports, the crash involved a tractor-trailer truck and a Cadillac. The Cadillac was under the rear of the semi, which was parked on the shoulder of the interstate at the time of the accident. State police said the vehicle ran off the roadway for unknown reasons and struck the back of the semi.

The crash happened at about 9:20 a.m. Tuesday. At about 9:40 a.m. a medical airlift helicopter was dispatched to the site of the crash. However, the male driver of the Cadillac was taken by ambulance to an area hospital. The extent of his injuries were unknown to state police by Tuesday afternoon. The semi-truck driver was not injured.

Interstate 70 Eastbound was closed at Packers Avenue.
