The mother of a teen who died in a car crash is suing her ex-husband for allowing the girl to drive.
On Aug. 29, 2014, 16-year-old Alexis D’Amico was driving her father’s 1987 Chevrolet Corvette when she crashed on Michael Road near Highland, flipping the car several times. Alexis was flown to Saint Louis University Hospital, where she died a few days later.
Now her mother, Vicky D’Amico of North Carolina, has filed a wrongful death suit in Madison County Circuit Court against Alexis’ father, Dante D’Amico, formerly of St. Jacob and Grantfork. The suit alleges that Dante D’Amico was negligent in allowing Alexis to drive his car as a young and inexperienced driver.
The D’Amicos divorced in 2010, after which Vicky D’Amico moved to North Carolina with their daughter. A few years later, the D’Amicos agreed to a change of custody, after which Alexis lived with her father and attended Highland High School.
After Alexis’ death, her father moved to Van Buren, Mo. Vicky D’Amico was named as executor of Alexis’ estate.
The case was filed in Madison County on June 24.
