East St. Louis man charged in fatal shooting

A 44-year-old East St. Louis man was charged the shooting death of a 33-year-old East St. Louis man that occurred last Friday outside of the Rukavina Building at 2903 Waverly Ave.

East St. Louis police received a call reporting shots fired at 10:20 p.m. Friday. The victim was Jessie Jamison, 33, whose last known address was in the 5200 block of N. 14th St., in East St. Louis.

Police arrested Antonio M. Williams, 44, whose last known address was in the 2900 block of Waverly Ave. St. Clair County state’s Attorney Brendan Kelly charged Williams with one count of first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a weapon, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

Williams is being held in the St. Clair County Jail in lieu of $1million bail.

It’s not clear what the motive was for the shooting death.

Illinois state Police Master Sgt. Mark Doiron said, “A weapon was recovered at the scene.”
