Belleville City Clerk Dallas Cook said Friday he will run against incumbent Mayor Mark Eckert in the April 4 election.

Cook said he will hold a news conference at 10 a.m. on Dec. 10 on the Public Square to discuss his plan for his first 100 days in office if he is elected.

Eckert previously has said he will run for re-election.

Cook was elected city clerk in 2013, while Eckert has been mayor since December 2004. Last month, Cook unsuccessfully ran for St. Clair County circuit clerk.

Belleville candidates must file their petitions between Dec. 12 and Dec. 19.
