Highland man severely injured in crash

An online fundraising effort is underway for a Highland man severely injured in a car crash over the weekend.

Gabe Fuehne was involved in a head-on collision on Friday, Oct. 28 as he drove to his job as an operations manager at Motion Industries, a parts company in Mount Vernon. The accident occurred between New Baden and Albers.

Fuehne, the son of Denise and Dale Fuehne of Highland, was airlifted to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He suffered multiple injuries. According to the GoFundMe site set up for him, Fuehne had spine surgery on Sunday and will return to the operating room on Thursday for a spinal fusion and orthopedic surgery on his right leg.

Fuehne and his girlfriend of seven years, Brooke, have an 11-month-old daughter, Lilly.
