The weather sirens were set off in Highland Friday due a funnel cloud spotted just west of the city.

According to the Highland Police Department, the funnel cloud was reported by a citizen and confirmed by an officer, which prompted to sirens to sound around 11:17 a.m.

One witness reported seeing the funnel pull water up into it as it passed over Silver Lake, but no damage was reported.

However, the Peanut Butter & Jam Festival on the downtown Square was canceled.

The storm has since moved out of the Highland area.

A power outage about an hour earlier in the day that affected the Northtown area of the city was caused by a circuit breaker malfunction and not attributable to the weather.
