Health: Pulmonary medicine specialty physician joins SJH medical staff

Dr. Meena Murugappan, M.D., FCCP, a board-certified specialist in pulmonary medicine who also holds board certifications in pulmonary disease medicine and internal medicine respectively, has joined the medical staff at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland.

“The addition of Dr. Murugappan to our ever-growing medical staff strengthens our position as the hometown healthcare provider of choice,” said Peggy Sebastian, president and chief executive officer of St. Joseph’s Hospital. “Adding a pulmonary specialty physician has been a priority because there is a definite need for someone of Dr. Murugappan’s expertise. Doing so provides greater access allowing local residents to stay in Highland for their pulmonary care.”

Dr. Murugappan received her medical degree from the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Neb., and completed fellowship and residency program requirements through the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo.

Dr. Murugappan holds professional memberships in:

• American College of Chest Physicians,

• Missouri State Medical Association,

•  Pulmonary Hypertension Association-PH Clinicians and Researchers,

• American Thoracic Society,

• Society of Critical Care Medicine, and

• American College of Physicians

Dr. Murugappan will also hold specialty clinic hours in the St. Joseph’s Hospital Specialty Clinic, located on the third floor of the Medical Office Building on the new St. Joseph’s Hospital campus, 12860 Troxler Ave. in Highland.
