Highland Firemen’s Dance
The annual Highland Fireman’s Dance to benefit the city of Highland and the Highland-Pierron fire departments will be held on Saturday, March 21 at the Highland Knights of Columbus Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. The Well Hungarians will play from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Advance tickets are available from any Highland or Highland-Pierron firefighter and cost $20 per person or $35 per couple. Tickets at the door will be $25 per person or $40 per couple. Cost includes chicken, plates and utensils. Feel free to bring side dishes. There will be a cash bar.
There will also be a silent auction and cooler of booze raffle.

Marydale chicken dinner
St. Teresa of Avila Church in Marydale will hold its annual chicken dinner from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 22. The menu will include homemade bread, desserts and dressing. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Carry-outs will be available. There will also be a quilt raffle. The church is located at 18021 Marydale Road, six miles north of Carlyle on Illinois Route 127.
HHS selling Cardinals tickets
The Highland High School baseball team is selling tickets for the St. Louis Cardinals game against the Philadelphia Phillies, which will be played on Thursday, April 30 at 12:45 p.m. Immediately following, the HHS varsity Bulldogs will play the Waterloo Bulldogs. Partners for Pets trivia night
Partners for Pets will hold a trivia night on Saturday, March 21 at the St. Gregory Armenian Community Center, 3501 Century Drive in Granite City. Doors open at 6:30, and trivia will start at 7 p.m. Cost is $15 per person ($120 for a table of eight) and includes draft beer and soda. Prizes money will be awarded. There will also be a silent auction and raffles. Bring your own snacks; do not bring alcohol. You will receive a raffle ticket for every can of pet food you donate. NiCE Foundation garage sale
The NiCE Foundation (Nicaragua Christian Education) will hold its annual spring garage sale over two weekends. Both sales will be at the old Artex building, 1405 Walnut in Highland. Sale dates and times will be from 2 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 26; from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 27; from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 28; from 2 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 9; from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 10; and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 11.
Sale items will include clothing (toddler to 5X), spring and Easter decorations, housewares, glassware, flea market items, toys, books, games, tapes, movies, bedding, furniture, baby items (strollers, etc.), and other items too numerous to mention.

Highland Kiwanis cosmic bingo
The Highland Kiwanis will hold a cosmic bingo on Thursday, March 26 at the Highland Knights of Columbus Hall starting at 7 p.m. Cost is $25 per person and includes 10 games of bingo with chances to win $100 on each game. Leaps of Love benefits
The eighth annual “Crawl for a Cause” will be held on Saturday, March 21 in downtown Edwardsville. The theme will be “Hollywood.” Come dressed as your favorite movie character/star. Costumes are highly encouraged. Cost is $30 for a standard ticket or $40 for a premium ticket, which includes a VIP, red carpet pre-party at Laurie’s Place from 5 to 6:30 p.m., which includes a food buffet and “major swag.” The crawl starts at 6:30 p.m. at Laurie’s Place. Leaps of Love will hold a 40-frame bowling tournament on Saturday, March 28 at Poplar Junction Lanes in Highland. There are two times from which to choose, 2 or 7 p.m. Cost is $25 per person. Participants must be at least 18 years old. The two sessions will be combined to determine winners. EvUCC Rummage Sale
Evangelical United Church of Christ, 2520 Poplar St. in Highland, will hold its annual rummage and bake sale from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 27 and from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 28.
The sale benefits programs at our church every year. In past years, it has helped with the Wee Care Day Care and Peppermint Preschool programs. The bake sale has always helped with missions to the Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, Miss.
The congregation has gathered many items of interest for this event, including household items, as well as infant and toddler clothing. Most all items priced at 50 cents. Some other things could be priced at a little higher price. Some items you might never see again.
MD Fathers & Friends Bowling Tournament
The Mater Dei Fathers & Friends Bowling Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, March 28 at Bartelso Bowl. Teams may bowl at noon, 3 p.m., 6 p.m. or 9 p.m. In addition to enjoying time with friends, you may win a cash prize. MD Fathers & Friends breakfast
The Mater Dei Fathers & Friends breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, March 29, Palm Sunday, in the MD cafeteria. The menu includes eggs, sausage, pancakes, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, coffee, juice, and milk. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 13, and children under age 5 eat free.
‘Sip and Paint’ to benefit Siteman Caner Center
“The Painting B’s,” Judy Kapp, Thelma Litteken, Annie Duing and Gerry Zika, will host a “sip and paint” class at from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1 at Serendipity Creations, 207 Suppiger Lane in Highland. This fun ladies night out will feature painting on a wine glass that is appropriate for the season, and all proceeds go to Siteman Cancer Center. Cost is $30. All supplies are included. Trivia Night to benefit Allen Warnecke Scholarship Fund
A trivia contest, raffle and auctions to benefit the Allen Warnecke Memorial Scholarship Fund is going to be held April 18 at the Aviston American Legion.
Warnecke was an alumni of Central Community High School, graduating in the first year of its existence in 1971. He also was the first valedictorian in the district’s history. After graduating from college, he returned to his alma mater as a mathematics teacher and member of the coaching staff. In 1990, Warnecke was named the athletic director and remained a fixture in that role at Central until his death in April 2014.
Doors for the fundraising event open at 5:30 p.m. Trivia starts at 6:30 p.m. There will be a $10,000 drawing after trivia. An oral auction takes place at 10 p.m.
The oral auction includes ticket packages for the St. Louis Rams, the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues Sub Zero Club, as well as a six-hour, all-inclusive pool party at the Holtmann House and an autographed Stan Musial baseball bat.
There will be other assorted event passes, golf items and sports memorabilia up for bid as well. Raffle tickets are now available for a $10,000 prize to be awarded at the event. All proceeds from the April 18 event will go to scholarship awards to deserving students.
The fee is $100 per table with a maximum of 10 players per table. Their will be 50-50 raffle tickets available and a heads and tails game. Snacks may be brought in. Beer will be available for purchase at the bar.

Relay for Life quarter auction
The Myeloma Maniacs Highland Relay for Life team will hold its fourth annual quarter auction on Thursday, April 23 at the Highland Knights of Columbus Hall. Starting 11 years ago with just a handful of students, Maryville Christian School (MCS) has grown to over a 200-student enrollment and is now excited to begin its journey as a high school, with enrollment now open for ninth grade.
