Grantfork news for the week of March 19

The yearly rummage sale will be held March 19-21. Hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 19; from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 20; and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 21. Donations may be taken to the church and placed on the stage.

The UFO will be having a Bake Sale after worship on Sunday, March 29.

The Grantfork Easter Egg hunt will be held on April 4 this year.

Grantfork Elementary

If you have a child who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, please call Alhambra Primary at 488-2200 to get them registered. Mrs. Hooks will get some basic information from you over the phone. Alhambra Primary is planning a kindergarten visitation day of Friday, May 1.

The PTO will have its next meeting on Thursday, March 19 at Grantfork School.

Students will be attending school on March 31 and April 1 as these are make-up days. Spring break will be from April 2-6. Classes will resume on April 7.

Parents are asked to remember the dress code since the weather is getting warmer: no spaghetti-strap dresses, shorts and skirts should be at least mid-thigh, no halter tops, and no underwear showing.

Leef Township Annual Meeting

The Leef Township Annual Meeting will be Tuesday, April 14 at 7 p.m. at the Leef Township Building. Residents are welcome to attend and hear the annual report by the road commissioner, supervisor, assessor and find out the financial state of the township.

St. Gertrude Catholic Church

St. Gertrude will do Stations of the Cross on Friday, March 20 at 7 p.m.

Easter flower orders are now being taken. Fill out the card from church and turn it in or if not from this area, but would like to remember a loved one by purchasing a flower in their name, contact the office at (618) 887-4535 with the name of the loved one and the donor.

The next installment of the Speakers Series, will be “History of the Catholic Church,” presented by Deacon Bob Crosby on Thursday, March 19 at 6:30 p.m. at St. James Church in St. Jacob. A light supper will be served at 6 p.m. RSVP to one of the parish offices or register online.

St. Gertrude’s kitchen will be having some work done on the floors and a couple walls in the near future, but it will be done at a time that it will not impact the up coming chicken dinner.

Bishop Thomas John Paprocki will offer Sacraments of Confirmation to the members of the Silver Creek Parishes, St. Jerome, St. James, St. Elizabeth and St. Gertrude, on Wednesday, May 27. Confirmation Mass will be at 7 p.m. at St. Elizabeth in Marine. This is open to any adults 18 or older who have not received the Sacraments of Initiation and would like to be confirmed.
