Mayor: There’s still time to sign up for Ameren gas

Grantfork Mayor Steve Brendel said those who wish to sign up for natural gas service from Ameren can still do so until Monday, when the Village Board is planning a special meeting to decide whether or not to move forward with the project.

The village had said Sunday was the deadline for property owners to turn in contracts However, Brendel said, since the board is not meeting until Monday night, they would still accept late-comers.

Brendel said more than 100 people had signed up already. The village was hoping for 137 customers to be on board before it OKed the deal with Ameren, because the village must pay the up-front cost of extending the line. Ameren would then reimburse the village for each property that taps on.

Those wishing to turn in a contract can put it in the drop box at Village Hall. A copy of the contract can be downloaded from the News Leader website.
