Shirley M. Gruenenfelder, 77, of Springfield, Ill., died on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfiled.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, March 19 at Cotton Hill United Methodist Church in Springfield, with the Rev. Sharon Treptow officiating. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies. Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home in Springfield was in charge of arrangements.
She was born on July 14, 1937 in Highland to Eldo and Mildred (Mueller) Pfister. She married Robert O. Gruenenfelder on May 21, 1955 in Highland. He survives in Springfield.
Mrs. Gruenenfelder was a 1955 graduate of Highland High School. She was an active member of Cotton Hill (formerly Woodside) United Methodist Church. Her family and friends knew her as a kind and caring woman, with a servant’s heart and a strong faith.
She is also survived by her children, Glenda (Richard) Kroll, Cheryl (Bill) Tate, Robert J. (Jamie) Gruenenfelder and Douglas (Terri) Gruenenfelder; grandchildren, Amanda Kroll, Michelle (Andrew) Brownell, Joshua Kroll, Melissa (Ryan) McCulloch, Sean Davis, Morgan Gruenenfelder, Mallory Gruenenfelder, Evan Gruenenfelder, Spenser Gruenenfelder, Pearce Gruenenfelder and Logan Gruenenfelder; great-grandchildren, Tegan Davis and Adilene McCulloch; siblings, Jane (Bill) Stieb and Brenda (Jeff) Hebrank, both of Highland, Laurie (Ray) Parker of Raleigh, N.C., Ruth (Jerry) Voegele of Verona, Wis., and Eldo (Linda) Pfister of Manchester, N.H.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
