Dale Allen Morlen, 68, of Highland died on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Willowcreek Rehab & Nursing in Belleville.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25 and again from 8 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 26 at Meridith Funeral Home in Highland. A funeral service will follow the visitation on Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Leonard Pye, pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Highland, officiating. Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery.
He was born April 5, 1946 in Granite City to Massey and Ruth (Plank) Morlen. He married Dixie Maden at the E&R Church in Troy. She survives in Highland.
Mr. Morlen was a firefighter in Hazelwood, Mo., for 28 years, retiring as captain in 2007. He also was a volunteer firefighter for Highland for many years. He loved his firefighter brothers and sisters as he did his own family.

He, along with his wife, started the Highland Animal Shelter.
He was a member of the Masons and Highland Pistol & Rifle Club. He liked wildlife, fishing, photography and shooting at the gun club.
He loved his family and especially spending time fishing with his grandson and four-wheeling with his granddaughter.
He is also survived by a daughter, Amy Earlaine (fiance Michael Taylor) Huelsmann; grandchildren, Chloe Elisabeth Huelsmann, Seth Allen Huelsmann; step-grandchildren, Jordan Lee Taylor, Tobie Lynn Taylor, and Daniel Jacob Taylor; a brother, Ron (Lisa) Morlen; nieces, Mandy (Chris) Robinson and Salina (Lucas) Bollinger; nephews, Ronnie Morlen and Jonathan Morlen; and loyal pet, Wally Wonka.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a step-grandson, Caleb Michael Taylor.
