Melvin Niehaus, 93, of Troy died on Monday, July 6, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 10 and again from 9 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 11 at Meridith Funeral Home in Highland. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 11 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, with Father Pat Jakel, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland.
He was born on Sept. 3, 1921 in Troy to Arnold and Ella (Noeltner) Niehaus. On Feb. 20, 1954, he married Marian Knebel at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland. She survives in Troy.
Mr. Niehaus was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, the Helvetia Sharpshooters and the Madison County Farm Bureau. He loved to farm and did it his entire life. He also loved to talk to everyone.

He is also survived by a son, John (Dana) Niehaus of Troy; grandchildren, Allisen Niehaus, Aaren Niehaus and Austen Niehaus; sisters, Arline Fohne of O’Fallon and Bernice (Leonard) Dickerson of Collinsville; a sister-in-law, Henrietta Knebel of Trenton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Lorine Tonnies, Marcella Heim and Bernadine Poletti.
