Maryville University senior Aryn Weis, a Highland High School graduate, finished the year and her track and field career on a high note with a first-place finish in the Javelin to at the two-day Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind. on Saturday, May 6.
Weis reached an NCAA Division II provisional mark with a winning throw of 41.48 meters to win the Javelin and claim her second medal of the weekend.
On the track, the Saints 4 x 100-meter team of Kelly Barnes, Courtney Manning, Weis, and Croy placed seventh in the event with a time of 50.34 second. In the final event of the day, the 4 x 400-meter relay team of Megan Weichman, Weis, Barnes, and Manning earned sixth place in the event with a time of 4:03.88.
With Weis helping lead the way, the Maryville women’s track and field team finished in seventh place at the GLVC Outdoor Championships.
A day earlier,, Weis paced Maryville with a second-place finish in the Heptathlon. Weis earned a spot on the podium with a score of 4,313 points over the two-day event
On April 15, Weis broke her own school record and achieved a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA DII Nation meet while winning the the Heptathlon with a final score of 4,630 points at the Mt. SAC Relays/ CA Initational in Azusa, Calf. The point total was enough to give Weis a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA DII National meet that will be held May 25-27 at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Weis is currently ranked 21st in the country in the event.
