Stanford University junior Lena Giger, a 2014 Highland High School graduate, finished third in the shot put with a best mark of 54 feet, 1.75 inches (16.50 meters) on Saturday, May 13 at the Pac-12 Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore.
Then on Sunday, May 14, Geiger came back to place seventh in the hammer throw with a distance of 184 feet, 8 inches (56.28 meters).
On April 29 at the Texas Longhorn Invitational at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of University of Texas in Austin, Texas, Giger was Standford’s top finisher after garnering second place in the shot put with a throw of 54 feet, 3.75 inches (16.55 meters). The Highland native briefly took the lead on her opening throw, which was her best of the day, but Texas freshman Elena Bruckner, out of San Jose's Valley Christian High School, immediately answered at 54 feet, 8.25 inches (16.67 meters) on her first attempt and it held up for the victory.
