The Highland Splash overwhelmed their third straight opponent to open the season after winning 55 of the total 62 events to sink the host Trenton Torpedoes by the one-sided score of 420 to 96 Tuesday, June 21 at the Trenton Community Pool.

Highland (3-0), which is coached by Ryan Poss and Alex Rinderer, opened the meet by winning three of the four medley relays.

The Splash carried that momentum onward by claiming nine of the 10 freestyle events, eight of the 10 breaststroke races, six of the eight individual medleys before winning nine out of 10 of each of the backstroke and butterfly events, then finishing off the commanding triumph by winning nine of the 10 freestyle relays.

Highland had 13 different swimmers capture first place in multiple individual events.

Three Splash team members swept all three of their races:

▪ Ben Thomae, 18, in the boys 15-18 100-meter breaststroke (1:19.99), the 100-meter individual medley (1:08.90) and the 100-meter backstroke (1:10.13)

▪ Victoria Thomae, 17, in the girls 15-18 100-meter breaststroke (1:21.13), the 100-meter individual medley (1:12.68) and the 50-meter butterfly (32.01)

▪ Sean McGinley in the boys 9-10 25-meter freestyle (16.03), the 25-meter breaststroke (23.41) and the 25-meter backstroke (20.21)

The 10 additional Splash swimmers who won two events apiece were:

▪ Alyssa Freimann in the girls 15-18 100-meter freestyle (1:12.03) and the 100-meter backstroke (1:23.72)

▪ Ben Walter in the boys 13-14 100-meter backstroke (1:12.67) and the 50-meter butterfly (32.19)

▪ John Nyquist in the boys 13-14 100-meter freestyle (1:14.21) and the 100-meter individual medley (1:23.58)

▪ Taryn Stephens in the girls 13-14 100-meter breaststroke (1:26.89) and the 50-meter butterfly (34.09)

▪ Rylee Sitton in the girls 11-12 50-meter freestyle (33.07) and the 50-meter backstroke (38.28)

▪ Patrick McGinley in the boys 11-12 100-meter individual medley (1:32.90) and the 50-meter backstroke (43.93)

▪ Tucker Stephens in the boys 10-and-under 100-meter individual medley (1:31.09) and the 9-10 25-meter butterfly (18.44)

▪ Ellie Sitton in the girls 10-and-under 100-meter individual medley (1:34.65) and the 9-10 25-meter backstroke (21.06)

▪ Natalie Chalfant in the girls 8-and-under 25 freestyle (20.90) and the 25-meter butterfly (20.22)

▪ Eddie Foppe in the boys 8-and-under 25-meter freestyle (24.47) and the 25-meter butterfly (39.19)

(Events at this meet were competed in meters. There are three swimmers in total from both teams combined who score in each individual event, so one team is allowed to score its top two swimmers in any one individual event. Therefore, each team is guaranteed to score at least one point in each and every individual event. This does not include the meet-opening medley relays or the meet-ending freestyle relays, in which only the winning relay team scores seven points.)
