The McKendree University bass fishing team had another fantastic finish when traveling to Lake Chickamauga this past weekend.
The Cabela’s Boat US two-day tournament featured colleges from all across the United States. The format for the event placed the anglers into four-man teams, two boats per team. Universities that had an odd number of boats were also allowed to enter a team with only one boat. Each team was allowed to weigh six fish per day.
McKendree team members Brock Wilke (St. Rose) Curtis Lilly (Sterling) Shane Campbell (Highland) and Austin Chapman (Blue Mound) finished strong on day two to take eighth place with a two-day total of 26.95 pounds.
McKendree four-man team members Jordan Ledbetter (Carlyle), Taylor Schmitt (Lebanon), Brian McClanahan (Elkville) and Trent Robinson (Havana) finished in 24th place, with a two-day total of 20.79 pounds.
The McKendree team of Austin Niggli (Highland) and John Murphy of (Peoria) fished solo to finish the 85-team event in 34th place with a total weight of 16.85 pounds.
The tournament was won by Northern Kentucky University. The Bearcats will be heading to Lake Texoma this weekend for the Cabela’s Texas Shootout.
After an incredible run during the months of March and April, the McKendree bass fishing team jumped into the top 10 in the coveted School of the Year (SOY) race. The team is currently ranked ninth out of the 300 schools across the United States. Anglers accumulate points for the School of the Year by competing in sanctioned opens as well as the three collegiate circuits, Cabela’s Boat US, FLW, and Bassmaster.
The team’s recent run to the top 10 includes three top 12 finishes out of 186 teams at the Cabela’s Big Bass Bash on Kentucky Lake, 58th place out of 194 teams at the FLW Kentucky Lake Open, 17th place out of 83 teams at the FLW Table Rock Lake Qualifier, 23rd place out of the top 45 qualifying teams at the recent 2015 FLW National Championship, and 8th out the 146 boat, 85 team, Cabela’s Open on Lake Chickamauga.
