Carriel veteran event
Amelia Carriel Junior High has its third annual Veterans Day assembly from 7:30-9:10 a.m., Thursday in the cafeteria at the school at 451 N. 7 Hills Road in O’Fallon. This year’s featured speaker is Lt. Col. Andrew Resch, the new 375th Security Forces Squadron Commander at Scott Air Force Base. The program will include patriotic musical performances by the Carriel band and chorus. Carriel students will present a few short readings regarding the country’s military history, as well as recognition of veterans and active duty military members present, and students’ who have veteran or active duty family members (stateside or deployed). The program will commence with a presentation of a small gift to honored guests and a large group photo. Veteran’s Day parade
For more than 30 years the Sgt. Charles A. Fricke VFW Post 805 and the Post 805 Auxiliary have played host to O’Fallon’s annual Veterans Day parade. This year it begins at 2 p.m. on Friday. Parade line up is at 12:30 p.m. at the O’Fallon Community Park on the corner of Fifth and Park Streets at the Katy Cavins Community Center. For more information, call 618-581-8402.
Veterans’ Monument Program
The City of O’Fallon has its annual Veterans Day program at 10:40 a.m. Friday. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. The event is at the Veterans’ Monument Park at 737 E. Wesley Drive in O’Fallon. The guest speaker will be United States Air Force Brigadier General Steven J. Berryhill, deputy director of U.S. Transcom Operations and Plans. The names of 29 newly inscribed veterans will be introduced at this time. All veterans are encouraged to wear their medals and decorations that day. Attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs and drinks. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony is at the First Baptist Church of O’Fallon at 1111 E. U.S. 50. Allsup Military Families conference
Allsup is sponsoring a conference for military families and free Veterans Day screening to “Thank You for Your Service,” from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Faith Family Church located at 704 N. Green Mount Road in Shiloh. Hosted by Operation Honor, the movie screening and panel discussion kick off the No Family Left Behind Behavioral Health Conference and Connection Fair Nov. 11-12. Keynote speaker is Dr. Mark Russell, founding director of the Institute for War Injuries and Social Justice of Antioch University. Conference registration is $10. Scholarships are available.
