OTHS students will be on local TV next week for WSIU’s “Scholastic Hi-Q”

Top students from O’Fallon Township High School competed with Carbondale High School students in the championship match of the 2016-2017 season of “Scholastic Hi-Q,” WSIU Public Television’s quiz show showcasing regional high school scholar bowl teams. The match was filmed November 2016, but will be available to watch on local TV channels 8 and 16.

The half-hour episode will air on WSIU-TV 8 and WUSI-TV 16, the public television stations of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 2 with a repeat broadcast at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, July 9.

Following the TV airing of the match, it will be available online too.

Produced by SIU Carbondale students, “Scholastic Hi-Q” is a single elimination competitive tournament featuring scholar bowl teams from over 30 area high schools. Team members answer questions from a variety of disciplines, including art, geography, history, literature, math, music, and science. The winning school of each match advances to subsequent rounds until they reach the championship. Season champions receive a large plaque for their school and recognition on the air and online.

Scholastic Hi-Q“ gives students an opportunity to enhance their problem-solving and critical-thinking skills while reinforcing life lessons in responsibility and teamwork.
