To the Editor:
In reading the article by Garen Vartanian, Editor, O’Fallon Progress, Narch 12, it was written that the actual wording of the proposed referendum is “shall the city of O’Fallon consider only a lease of the municipal owned water and wastewater and related assets.”
This implies that if you vote no to lease the systems you would prefer that the city sell the assets, which may not be what you want. Perhaps the referendum should be amended to read:
“should the city of O’Fallon consider:

• A lease of the municipal owned water and wastewater systems;
• A sale of the municipal owned water and wastewater systems;
• Retaining the municipal owned water and wastewater systems ownership by the city of O’Fallon.
The problem that I have with leasing the systems, is that after the lease period the systems will return to the city control, which would have to purchase new equipment, and do repairs or upgrades, that may have been relaxed during the last years of the lease.
