O'Fallon Progress

Letter to the Editor: Beware of half truths

To the Editor:

I have been reading with great interest the letters and comments by the opposition group where they keep talking about water rates going up and how bad private companies are in running water systems.

They never mention that O’Fallon’s water rate increases have risen 42 percent higher than Belleville’s over the last four years. And they never mention O’Fallon is just a water distribution center.

We actually purchase our pre-treated water from a private company—Illinois American Water—and then just test and pump it to our homes. And they never show any concern for how the city will fund the $80 million worth of infrastructure improvements. Do they support raising our property taxes $395 a year or sales tax by 25 percent?

I would encourage residents to beware of what they are not saying—instead of the half truths that they are saying.

Vote Yes on April 7 twice. We need send a message that we want our city officials to explore all options to fund our city’s needs.
