The decision to revamp their schedule, moving from Class A to Class B, paid immediate dividends for the OTHS boys lacrosse team as they opened their 2015 season by thumping Fox High School 17-1 last Thursday evening (March 5).
Dominating from the outset, the Panthers unleashed a barrage of shots with many finding the back of the net as they cruised to their first victory of the season, making a statement as to the relative strength of their program in comparison with the other public high schools that make up most of the Class B division.
Shane McIntyre led the blistering assault on the Fox defense, ending the night with a team-high five goals. Jack Gentry nearly equaled McIntyre’s effort with a 4-goal night. Adding to the Panthers’ impressive scoring total were Harrison Berry (3), Riley Derby (2), Caleb Neff (2) and Mike Foytlin (1).
Although their first game of the season, the OTHS squad was nearly as impressive defensively as they were offensively. The visiting Missouri school was unable to mount a serious challenge once the Panthers blitzed them in the first 10 minutes of the contest. The OTHS midfielders controlled the tempo of the game, repelling Fox’s advances while setting up the O’Fallon attackers for repeated rushes and eventual scores.
