To the Editor:
I recently read that the Chamber of Commerce is encouraging voters in O’Fallon to vote YES on the upcoming referendum.
The Chamber of Commerce has been an important voice in our community for decades. Their resolution states that “the Chamber recognizes, like any business decision, the facts need to be analyzed.”
Currently, the city is waiting for the completed proposals to come in from three finalists. These proposals are not due until the end of April. The Chamber resolution goes on to state that it “supports the referendum question which states “shall the City of O’Fallon consider only a lease and not a sale of the municipal-owned water and wastewater systems and related assets.”
The leaders in the Chamber of Commerce recognize it is important our city council have all the facts before making a decision. I agree and that is why I am encouraging my neighbors to vote YES on April 7.
We need to send a message to the city council that they need to do the work of the people and review the proposals before making a decision. A no vote lets them off the hook from doing what we elected them to do.
Vote YES on April 7.
