SWIC to offer classes

PMP Certification

classes this fall

Selsius Corporate & Career Training of Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) will begin offering Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification courses this fall. The first PMP Certification course is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Aug. 29 to Sept. 2, at the SWIC Belleville Campus. This course is designed to provide participants with the project management knowledge and skills that are needed to demonstrate project management mastery and prepare for the PMP certification exam. Sessions will be led by experienced project management professionals with extensive corporate and/or military experience, in partnership with Alpine Security. A second session will be offered Nov. 28 to Dec. 2. To apply for the PMP certification, you need to have either a four-year degree (bachelor’s or the global equivalent) and at least three years of project management experience, with 4,500 hours leading and directing projects and 35 hours of project management education, or a secondary diploma (high school or the global equivalent) with at least five years of project management experience, with 7,500 hours leading and directing projects and 35 hours of project management education.

Fish Fry

The O’Fallon Knights of Columbus and Ladies Auxiliary continue to sponsor a weekly fish fry from 4-8 p.m. every Friday at the K of C Hall, located at 402 E. Hwy 50, across from the O’Fallon Community Park. The traditional menu of cod and tilapia will be available, along with hamburgers, hot dogs and additional side dishes. Courage & Grace event

O’Fallon’s Courage & Grace art studio is hosting an open house event from 1-4 p.m. to honor the O’Fallon Police Department (OPD) on the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York city.

The workshop is located in O’Fallon at 300 West State Street. A raffle will take place for a free private workshop valued at $350. Five tickets are $5 or 12 for $10. Painting of a 10 by 10 inch wooden sign, which is customizable with 45 colors and six new designs. Walk-ins are welcome. A $10 donation is suggested but not required, and 100 percent of the proceeds with go to the OPD for its ‘Cops and Kids’ program events, which helps underprivelaged children in our area Christmas gifts. Also, the same day at 4:30 p.m. a workshop to also benefit the ‘Cops and Kids’ Christmas fund, which could range from $35-$60 depending on what participants choose for materials and design. Chamber Golf tourney

The O’Fallon-Shiloh Chamber of Commerce has one single fundraiser event annually to provide members with more benefits and resources. The 19th annual Golf Tournament has two sessions. The first will begin at 7 a.m., and the second tees off at 12:30 p.m. at Far Oaks Golf Course located at 419 Old Collinsville Road in Caseyville. A total of 51 teams are registered so far, and there is still available slots for the morning session only. Sponsorships will be accepted up until Sept. 6. The Scott POW/MIA Council will hold its 25th Annual POW/MIA Recognition Ceremony at VFW Post #805, 221 W. First ST, O’Fallon, Illinois, on Saturday, Sept. 17. Each year, the Council invites former prisoners-of-war (POWs) and their family members living in the St. Louis Metro and Metro-East areas, along with leaders from both Scott Air Force Base and the local community to honor those who were held as POWs as well as those who are still listed as missing. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and lasts approximately one hour. A complementary barbecue for guests begins at 11 a.m.

St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon (Fairview Heights) is hosting a Bowl-A-Thon starting at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 30. One hundred percent of the proceeds benefit the Special Olympics.
