Belleville man involved in car crash turns himself in after warrant issued

A 20-year-old Belleville man charged with driving under the influence, drug possession and leaving the scene of a crash was taken into custody Wednesday after turning himself in to the St. Clair County jail.

The Shiloh Police Department said in a news release that a warrant had been issued Tuesday for the man identified as George W. Kinder.

Kinder’s bail was set at $50,000. He posted bond shortly after his arrest Wednesday afternoon and was released, according to the jail.

The warrant issued earlier this week stemmed from a September vehicle crash in Shiloh at the intersection of Hartman Lane and Thouvenot Lane. The suspect vehicle left the scene after the crash, and Swansea police later stopped the vehicle in Belleville. A Shiloh police officer responded to the scene and took the suspect into custody.

After an investigation, authorities submitted the case to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.

Unlawful possession of a controlled substance is a Class 4 felony, and driving under the influence is a Class A misdemeanor. Leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage is a Class A misdemeanor.
