Police are seeking the public’s help in finding a person they believe robbed a gas station on Vandalia last Friday evening.

A young man entered Ron’s Shell Station at 121 E. Vandalia at about 6:30 p.m. Friday, displayed a handgun and demanded money. He then fled on foot with an undetermined amount of money, according to the Edwardsville Police Department.

The man is described as a black male in his late teens to early 20s, between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-10, weighing about 175 to 200 pounds. He was wearing a light-gray hooded sweatshirt with an apparent Nike logo, dark pants and oversized sunglasses.

A young man fitting the description wearing a similar-appearing sweatshirt also was seen on camera at two other armed robberies in the Belleville area. Sgt. Chris Byrne of the Edwardsville Police Department said they were aware of the other robberies. “Our investigators will be following up further with the Belleville detectives to see if they could be related,” he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Edwardsville Police Det. Jake Germann at 618-656-2131.
