The second in a pair of people accused of beating and kidnapping an elderly man has been charged in the case, according to an announcement released Thursday from St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly.
Shawn E. Richardson, 25, of Caseyville faces charges of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated battery to a person over 60 years old. An accomplice, Brittany R. Davis, 19, of Belleville, has already been charged.
According to St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department reports, Davis went to a home at 11:47 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Anderson Lane. The area is in the Yorktown neighborhood between Belleville and Shiloh.
Davis asked the homeowner, identified as Gerald Faughn, 77, for a ride to the store. While she was inside, she allegedly unlocked a door so Richardson could get into the residence. Richardson allegedly attacked Faughn when he and Davis returned, police said.
St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Scott Weymouth said Wednesday that Faughn’s hands were then bound and he was shoved into the trunk of his car. He was released a short time later and found by Belleville police standing next to his car in the parking lot of Lowe’s home improvement store on the corner of Green Mount Road and Carlyle Avenue.
Davis originally told officers that she, too, was a victim of the male suspect and that she didn’t know him before the attack.
Davis and Richardson are being held at the St. Clair County Jail on $250,000 bail. Aggravated kidnapping is a Class X felony and the battery charge is a Class 3 felony.
