Police arrest woman accused of abducting children in Columbia

Police have captured a woman who faces a pair of felony counts for abducting two children from Columbia and taking them to Missouri.

According to Columbia Police Chief Joe Edwards, Amy L. Richey, 34, abducted a 10-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl March 20 from the Midwest Petroleum convenience store at 1553 N. Main St.

Edwards said Richey was arrested Tuesday by the St. Francois, Mo., County Sheriff’s Department.

The children are Richey’s biological kids. But, according to Monroe County court records, she has no custodial rights to them.

By tracing Richey’s phone records, police were able to learn that she placed a call from St. Francios County, Mo. The lead helped police find the kids, safe, in Valles Mines, Mo.

Richey’s bail has been set at $25,000.
