Police: Man robs Granite City credit union

Granite City police are searching for a man who robbed the Granite City Steel Credit Union branch at 2001 Lee Ave. on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a release posted to the department’s Facebook page, a black male standing between 6-foot and 6-foot-2 and weighing 250-280 pounds walked into the credit union at 1:22 p.m. and handed a teller a note demanding cash. The man left with the cash and got into the passenger seat of a four-door maroon sedan driven by another man.

The man who entered the bank was wearing a denim jacket over a gray hoodie, a black stocking cap, blue jeans and light gray tennis shoes.

The car was last seen headed east on 20th Street toward Illinois 203. Police said the car’s Illinois license plate includes the numbers “116.”
