A Worden man wanted in a shooting in Missouri was shot and killed by officers as he was trying to break into an Alton home Monday, according to police.
A resident in the 3400 block of Lincoln Street called Alton Police Monday evening to report that Isaac Jimenez, 27, was trying to get into the house. Jimenez was a person of interest in a St. Louis County shooting, and was being sought by law enforcement on both sides of the river for questioning. The homeowner was acquainted with Jimenez and knew he was being sought by police, according to Lt. Dave Bivens of the Illinois State Police.
According to police, Alton officers confronted Jimenez at the house. “He refused all commands by the police officers,” Bivens said. “He displayed a small-caliber handgun, at which time one of the officers shot the subject.”
While the officer fired several rounds, Bivens said he could not disclose how many times Jimenez was shot. He said they are attempting to determine whether Jimenez fired at the officers, who were not named by police. He was declared dead at the scene.

The Madison County Coroner’s office conducted an autopsy Tuesday, concluding that Jimenez died of a gunshot wound and suffered other, non-lethal gunshot wounds. The details were not disclosed pending further forensic review, according to a statement from the coroner’s office.
Alton Police have referred all comments to Illinois State Police, which is investigating the officer-involved shooting. Bivens said their responsibility is confined to only the officer-involved shooting. Illinois State Police will present their findings to the Madison County state’s attorney, who will determine whether Alton Police broke any laws. They are also sharing information with St. Louis County Police in regards to the shooting on Sunday, he said.
Jimenez was a person of interest in the shooting of a 27-year-old woman in St. Louis County. The woman was shot in the head Sunday morning, and had had a restraining order against Jimenez. On Sunday night, Madison County sheriff’s deputies surrounded Jimenez’s home in Worden, but upon entering, found he was not home. Law enforcement had been searching for Jimenez ever since.
The woman, whose identity has not been revealed by police, remains in critical condition according to Sgt. Brian Schellman of St. Louis County Police. Schellman said they had no further updates on their investigation as of yet.
