A pedestrian from St. Louis was fatally struck by a vehicle in an apparent hit-and-run in Granite City, authorities said Sunday.

Mark Scott Harris Jr., 25, of Kingsbury Avenue in St. Louis, was pronounced dead at the scene, Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn said.

Harris’ body was found shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday on the side of Illinois 203, one quarter mile east of 21st Street, said Major Ken Rozell, the assistant police chief, in a news release.

Nonn did not announce a cause of death but said an autopsy will be performed Monday.

Anyone who was with Harris on Saturday or has any information concerning this accident is asked to contact the Granite City Police Department at 618-877-6111.

Funeral home arrangements are pending.
